Families, volunteers, and partners on what MCT Sports has meant to them.
"One of my favorite parts about working with young athletes is watching their confidence grow as they improve. I try to take my time with every player and make sure they understand why we’re doing something instead of just telling them what to do. At that age, I think getting better and having fun go hand in hand. The more confident they become in their abilities, the more they enjoy being on the field. My goal is to help them become better players while also teaching values like work ethic, accountability, confidence, and how to handle failure."
"The biggest thing for me is seeing a kid start to believe in themselves. When they understand why we’re working on something and then see themselves getting better at it, their confidence takes off. That’s when they start having more fun with the game, and that’s what makes working with young athletes so rewarding."
Luke Schulte, Operation Manager & Assistant Pitching Coach for the Utica Blue Sox
"I was super lucky to get the opportunity to work with the youth during my time in Utica. I loved it because it reminded me that baseball is just a game and that we all started playing just to have fun. I hope I was able to make as much of an impact on them as they made on me."
Jack Sweeney
"Working with all the young athletes in Utica was a tremendous opportunity. Being able to help impact the younger generation and continue furthering their love for the game was awesome. Not only was it beneficial for them, but it was also helpful for my own perspective — trying to enjoy the game just as I did when I was a kid. They reinforced the need for smiling and having fun while being in between the white lines. Overall, it was an incredible opportunity to work with the young athletes."
Matt Colella
"Working the youth camp at Murnane was a great experience and an incredible opportunity to connect with the youth in the Utica area. For someone like me, who was a long way from home, it was a privilege to connect with the people who made playing with the Utica Blue Sox a possibility."
